Wednesday night: Gangs and Security

The Rockland public can learn about streets gangs and anti-terrorism preparedness and other security issues across the county during two seminars on Wednesday night, May 2.
The first one focuses on street gangs – criminal groups who recruit young people and use violence. Parents can learn about gangs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Spring Valley at the Rockland Community College building at 185 N. Main St. Police and other experts will discuss what gangs do, how they recurit, how to combat gang influences, and signs that children might be involved, such as changes in attitude, dress style, and language. The seminar is being held by the Rockland Gang Awareness and Prevention Task Force, along with the anti-poverty Community Action Program and the Spring Valley Collaborative. From 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rockland Community College’s Cultural Arts Building, law enforcement officers will discuss security. The seminar, “How to Address Security for Us and Our Institutions,â€? will feature Sheriff James Kralik, South Nyack-Grand View Police Chief Robert Van Cura, and Sheriff’s Officer Shlomo Koenig. The seminar is sponsored by the Rockland Jewish Federation.
