Pooch stirs up traffic mess

March

Maybe the pet blogger should get this one, but she’s busy walking her mutts so it’s left up to the crime blogger.

Anyway, a tiny Bichon Frise got loose on Route 202 yesterday, causing headaches for police and drivers. That’s the police radio chatter earlier this afternoon at 2 p.m. among Haverstraw dispatchers, police officers and the town animal control officer.

The pooch apparently darted under cars, hid and fled when police officers attempted to save its life from moving cars.

At one point, the radio chatter sounded like a search for a wanted fugitive – and it became questionable whether anyone wanted the mutt after all the fuss it was causing. Remember, this breed is the one pseudo-celebrities like Paris Hilton like to carry around like jewelry.

“Animal hiding under car,” one officer on the scene stated. “Animal fled the area. I am not sure where.”
A few minutes later. “Animal darting under parked cars … It appears to be a Bichon.”
At point, they were discussing the dog’s description.
“It appears to be less than a year-old.”
Then came the response, “You sure it’s not a mixed” breed?

Somewhere they picked up the pooch’ scent again. The animal control officer eventually tracked down the dog – safe and sound.

I guess it would be real news if the cops were running away from the dog.
