If it’s not one thing, it’s another

His fourth DWI conviction in a decade left Vasel Balbona without a driver’s license.
No, the Bronx man didn’t get pulled over again while under the influence. But he is in jail on a felony forgery charge after allegedly trying to use a different name to get a new driver’s permit.
Balbona was arrested last week. Police said that in November he used a relative’s resident alien card that had been altered with a fake name to try to get a driver’s permit at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Yonkers’ Larkin Plaza.
Balbona never got more than probation and short stints in jail for his prior felony convictions in 1998 and 2005. But now he faces a prison term on the forgery charge – and could get additional time because his latest arrest is a probation violation.
He was in court today as his lawyer, George Nader, asked for reasonable bail. Nader told state Supreme Court Justice Lester Adler that Balbona is a contractor who needs to get back to work.
Adler set bail at $7,500 and Balbona was returned to the Westchester County jail.
